| This is the best move that First Glasgow has made. The Transfer of these older buses as replacements to high floored services. They have given low floor access to places that have never seen it. These buses aren't even bad or old, they are good for the job in Glasgow. Many of them are seen in local Hamilton services, ideal for small low floor services. |

| The Dennis Lances were found to be unreliable and complicated to maintain. In the summer they are really warm due to un-maintained/non operational air-conditioning and no windows. As the blinds on the bus were electrically moved on, these were also pretty unreliable and keep breaking to this day. They've been advertised for sale for a while but so far everyone is take a wide bearth round them. Glad to see they've started to put LED destination screens in them now and there's a lot less lying at the side of the road broken down |

| THIS PICTURE SHOWS THE REASON WHY PUBLIC TRANSPORT IS NOT LIKED AND SAID TO BE UNRELIABLE. THE CLOGGING UP OF ROAD BY OTHER ROAD USERS CAUSE TRAFFIC DELAYS AND PREVENT FAST, DIRECT ROUTE FOR BUSES TO RUN THROUGH. IF EVERYBODY THAT HAS A DRIVEWAY OR CAR PARK AVAILABLE USED IT THEN IT WOULD OFFER ALOT OF EXTRA ROAD SPACE TO BE USED BY THE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. ALSO IF A FEW PEOPLE FROM EVERY PLACE OF EMPLOYEMENT CHANGE TO PUBLIC TRANSPORT FROM THE CAR THEN IT WOULD MEAN VAST NUMBERS OF LESS CARS ON THE ROAD. EVERYONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN BUSES SHOULD ENCOURAGE FRIENDS, FAMILY, WORK COLLEGUES, ETC TO TRAVEL TO WORK, SOCIAL, SHOPS BY BUS OR OTHER PUBLIC TRANSPORT AND LEAVE THE CAR. IF THE ROADS KEEP GETTING CLOGGED UP THEN THE BUS WILL DIE. NOBODY WILL USE IT. |

| I would very much like pictures and information on Bike carrying bus services to promote the concept more widely. Can only guarantee to offer the photo credits unless a magazine wants to use the material.
Ideally the pictures should be populated with cyclists getting on or off - but i've noted that Bus group pictures have a preference for views of empty buses and generally clean ones!
Some vehicles and services which I can use feedback and pictures on are the Lochgilphead-Skipness service (this reportedly carried over 100 bikes in 2007 and has been similarly successful in subsequent years) and Hendersons operate Solos on a number of useful routes - cycles have gone on the Hamilton-Strathaven evening services to avoid the slog and risks of riding on a fast and unlit road - uphill and/or into the teeth of a gale at night.
I've added 50% to the passenger count on some routes by hopping on with my bike.
The trailer BTW is a Burtech - made in N Wales and very popular with commercial operators for bike carrying - up to 16 bikes can be carried within the 750Kg GTW limit for a Class D licence-holder.
I'd also be interested to get pictures of the old manual transmission, elevating air suspension coaches which are/were chartered (running empty from Bishop Auckland!) to provide an uplift for Mountain bike riders at Glentress (like a ski-tow for bikes) - many MTB sites now use buses and trailers or separate trucks to take the bikes & riders to the top of the hill - the Merc 800 series, proven on African dirt roads is popular for this!
I work p/t as a specialist in Bikes with Publc Transport for CTC the National Cyclists' Organisation. |

Volvo SV02 CUK Of Ayrways On David Urquhart Tours Work Other Scottish Operators |
|
|
|---|
| On Glenton contract to GLENSHEE, from what I gather on the windscreen. The David Urquhart contract in the area which Ayrways operate is carried out by Milligan's of Mauchline. That said, Glenton give alot of work to Milligan's also. This is the Ayrways's pride of fleet |

| Although 22862 is technically the "spare " enviro at Killie for the 4/444, 22389/90 are usually the next two to be put on the route in the event that one of the Enviros is off for service etc. They were used on the 4 most days during the open golf at Turnberry. |

UK04 TGT Of Milligans Coaches, Interesting Livery Application Other Scottish Operators |
|
|
|---|
| A second coach, Scania Irizar K124 Century (MIL3218) was with this coach when I saw it heading home for the night. UK04TGT was however parked in a layby. MIL3218 also displayed David Urquhart contract livery. Was this with TGT?? |
|
|
|---|
| TGT was on it's own when seen here, although I wasn't at this spot for very long. |
|
|
|---|
| Can you remember if it sounded healthy - as if it was about to break down cos it was parked in a layby, I think empty and if it is a David Urquhart contract the bus will proberly be on its last stop for the evening.? |
